° Her Story

Asidalia started as a live model for a friday night portrait class seven years ago. They asked her to sit for 3 hours in 1/2 hour increments with 5 minute breaks, staring at a mirror across the room (so she could tell if she had moved too much). Many of the artists remarked at how still she was able to sit, saying, "I hardly saw you move at all." She posed for more and more classes until she soon became a highly popular and widely sought portrait model.

Then, last summer, she visited Providence, RI and attended their "WaterFire" event. There were at least two or three living statues scattered along the river as well as an entire troupe made-up to be gargoyles handing out slips of paper and getting their pictures taken with all walks of life. The crowd that gathered was impressive.

It was at that time that she was struck by a lightning bolt: she was already living statue——it's just that she was missing the proper costume and make-up. So, when she arrived home, she decided that she would become a fortune-telling living statue all in white. This led to the birth of her trademark turban.

She quickly discovered that she absolutely loved her new life as a living statue, catching the surprised eyes of passers-by and blowing kisses to small children in their strollers.
